Monosynth Help

Quick Start

  1. Select Start Audio, then set a safe Master level.
  2. Play the on-screen keyboard or the QWERTY note keys.
  3. Use the on-screen minus and plus buttons to change keyboard octaves.
  4. Press Spacebar to start or stop the sequencer when a control is not focused.

Signal Chain

Oscillators + Noise → Mixer → Filter → Envelope/VCA → Delay → Reverb → Master

Shape a sound at the source, blend it in the mixer, then use the filter and envelope before adding effects.

Using the Sequencer

Select a step, then play a note on the screen or QWERTY keyboard to enter it. Auto Step moves to the next step after entry while stopped.

  • Rest clears the selected step. Tie extends the preceding note through the selected step.
  • Gate sets the selected note's duration; Tempo sets the clock; Length selects 8, 16, 32, or 64 active steps.
  • Use Play and Stop, or Spacebar, for transport. Length, Auto Step, Load, Reset, and Clear are stopped-only controls.
  • Use the Pattern menu to Save, Load, or Clear a named pattern.

Keyboard Commands

A W S E D F T G Y H U J K play the chromatic notes in the selected octave. Spacebar starts or stops transport unless a button, input, select, or menu has focus.

Click the on-screen keys to play them with a pointer, and use its octave minus and plus controls to move from octave 1 to 7.

Saving and Loading Patches

A named patch stores the synth control settings. The current controls, keyboard octave, sequencer pattern, length, tempo, and Auto Step setting are restored automatically from local storage.

Use Patch → Save for a named IndexedDB save. Saving a duplicate name asks for overwrite confirmation. Use Load to recall one, or Reset to return the patch controls and keyboard octave to defaults.

Panic

Use Panic when a note or sequence needs to stop immediately. It stops transport, releases sounding notes, and clears effect tails.

Control Reference

Use the sections below as a quick guide to what each panel changes and how the controls interact.

Voice

Each oscillator selects saw, pulse, or sine, then sets octave, coarse semitones, and fine cents. Pulse Width only shapes the pulse wave. The envelope controls attack, decay, sustain, and release; Glide smooths pitch changes between notes.

Mixer

Osc 1, Osc 2, and Noise set the level of each source feeding the filter. Raise Osc 2 for detuned layers, or Noise for breath and percussion before filtering.

Filter

LP removes high frequencies and HP removes low frequencies. Cutoff sets the frequency, Res emphasizes frequencies around it, and Env makes the amp envelope move the cutoff in either direction.

LFO

Choose triangle or square and set Rate, then send the modulation to Pitch, Filter, or PWM. PWM affects pulse width, so it is most audible when an oscillator uses the pulse wave.

Effects

Delay Time sets repeat spacing, Feedback sets how long repeats continue, and Mix blends delay with the dry signal. Reverb Decay sets the tail length and its Mix controls how much reverb is heard.

Keyboard

The keyboard is monophonic: the most recently held note has priority. On-screen and QWERTY notes follow the selected octave, so release held notes before changing octaves.

Master

Master is the final output level after delay and reverb. Start low, especially when increasing resonance, feedback, or effect mix.

Patch and Pattern Controls

Patch Save and Load manage named synth control settings; Pattern Save and Load manage the sequence separately. Clear resets every pattern step to a rest.
